Licorice extract is mainly used in the treatment of hepatitis, peptic and aphthous ulcers found in the digestive tract and also have anti-inflammatory and antiapoptotic effects via suppression of TNF-alpha.
The main active metabolite found in this plant is 18-beta glycyrrhizic acid whereas flavonoids, liquiritin, isoliquiritin, isoflavones, glabridin, and hispaglabridins are also present.
