Binder, modified release matrix system and film coating used in direct-compression tableting. It can also be used as a thickening agent suitable for microencapsulation processes, transdermal patches and ophthalmic preparations. It can be useful as a suspension stabilizer for pigment dispersions that are used in color coating formulations.
