Ruscogenins is a combination of the molecules Ruscogenin and Neoruscogenin. It is used for its anti- elastase, permeability reduction, vasoconstrictive and anti haemorrhoidal properties, and to treat chronic venous insufficiency.
The isolated molecule group, Ruscogenins from Ruscus aculeatus, reduces cell permeability through its anti-elastase activity by degrading elastin the main component of the extracellular matrix. Furthermore, in-vivo studies suggest that its vasoconstrictive effect may be mediated by calcium and the alpha-1 adrenergic receptors.
