Safic-Alcan’s ESG progress recognized by extra-financial rating agencies

01st February, 2022

Since 2018, Safic-Alcan, a major distributor of specialty chemicals and ingredients, has developed a growth strategy using sustainable development as the engine for innovation. Committed to assessing its continuous improvement of its ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) performance, Safic-Alcan is proud to share its 2021 progress as recognized by three ESG assessment providers (Moody's ESG solutions, EcoVadis, CDP).

Safic-Alcan sees sustainability as an ongoing learning process with long-term successes. As a durable link in the value chain, Safic-Alcan is the link between all its partners and aims to develop innovative and responsible solutions together. Its objective is also to guarantee that it does its business as a distributor in a responsible way by integrating sustainability into its practices and in all the value chain. As such, its journey is driven by its ESG strategy published this year in its last sustainability report.

Its ESG approach is regularly assessed by ESG assessment providers. This year, three of them have released their evaluation findings which show sustainable progress in the Group’s ESG performance:

Moody's ESG Solutions

Moody's ESG solutions*, is an ESG data and assessment provider that developed a methodology to analyse and assess small and medium unlisted companies on 3 domains (Environment, Social and Governance) based on leadership, implementation and results criteria.

In 2021, Safic-Alcan obtained the “advanced performance” recognition for its Group ESG strategy and progress with a global score of 84/100.

EcoVadis

Safic-Alcan decided to implement a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) ongoing assessment process by using the EcoVadis CSR rating methodology, which is widely recognized and used by its suppliers, as well as its customers. The framework is based on the evaluation of the quality of a company's CSR management system through its policies, actions and results with regards to environmental, labour practices & human rights, fair business practices and sustainable procurement issues.

CDP

CDP, an international non-profit organization which analyses the integration of the environmental dimension in the strategies of companies, has assessed Safic-Alcan SAS (France only) in the Climate change area.

Safic-Alcan SAS received the “B-” rating in 2021, improving its rating from “C” to “B-” compared to 2020.

We are very proud of our awards which reward the progress made and the commitment shown by all Safic-Alcan’s people. Our efforts have been intensified and strengthened over the last year especially following our ESG strategy update. Our sustainability journey continues, and today we are confident that we are going in the right direction.” stated Pauline Chary, Global ESG Manager for the Group Safic-Alcan.

We are confident that our position will help to improve ESG impact industry-wide and enable us to become the specialty distributor of choice for sustainable products. These results reflect the effectiveness of our ESG strategy, which includes deep-rooted commitment to sustainability. It is embedded in our new business strategy, representing our culture of continuous improvement, innovation and responsibility. These recognition ratings would not be possible without the efforts being made every day by the people who are Safic-Alcan. This is a great encouragement to pursue our actions.

More information about Safic-Alcan commitment can be found on the company website and in the Safic-Alcan sustainability report 2020-2021: “The Durable Link: Moving Forward”.
